It snowed here in East Texas yesterday. It didn’t stick, but still, that’s pretty cool. I understand they got a lot more than we did – south of us. For those of you who don’t know, this is fairly unusual at this time of year.
So much for global warming.
As for global environmental change – well, we’ve got the historical trend graphs going back many thousands of years (derived by REAL scientists), and the global temperature does in fact fluctuate up and down over time. It is going to continue to fluctuate, no matter what we do. I don’t doubt that man has some influence; after all, if you turn on your kitchen stove, you’re adding heat to the local environment that wasn’t there before. But all indications are that human influence on the heat balance of the planet is insignificant, bogus computer models notwithstanding.
But trying to keep the average temperature of the earth from changing is like trying to nail jello to the wall. In fact, any attempt to manipulate it overtly will probably screw the natural balance of things up worse than anything we may do unintentionally. Do you really want to have the government attempt to control the climate? Especially given the level of “science” they use for guidance? Heck, they still want to control global warming, and for the last eleven years global temperatures have been dropping! They don’t even understand the economy, much less the climate, which is a much less predictable system!
In point of fact, we are in an interglacial period at present. When it ends, global temperatures are going to drop. Wouldn’t it be ironic if this was the cause of the current temperature decrease? Mankind’s activities are insignificant on this scale.
The correct solution is to do what we’ve always done; just live our lives daily, and adapt to new conditions as they arise. Let’s wait and see what new conditions develop, then buy snowshoes or air conditioning, as appropriate.
