Notice to Moviegoers

Notice to moviegoers:

You CANNOT use your smart phone to surf Facebook in the movie without disturbing those behind you. Even if you turn the screen brightness down. Even if you try to shield the screen.

A few of us went to see Kung Fu Panda 2 the other day, and there were two women in the row in front of us (not seated together) who seemed to be incapable of leaving their phones off. The one directly in front of me was constantly perusing Facebook. I could tell she was trying not to distract us, because she at least had turned the brightness down – but in the darkened theater, it was very distracting even so. Eventually, I leaned down to her and said “Ma’am, that is far more distracting than you think it is.” And she finally turned it off.

She probably thought I was the one being rude.

Folks, if you can’t do without your Facebook for a 92 minute movie, you have a severe mental health problem. If you have this problem, don’t go to the movies! At least let the rest of us enjoy the show.

Sadly, I am convinced that nothing you could have said, or how you said it would have convinced her that your distraction was less inconsiderate than her actions. People like that just do not get it.

Found this today and thought of this post.
